What Flowers are permitted at Herongate Wood?

Share this FAQ Answer:

For Herongate Wood to develop as a natural and green Woodland we feel duty bound to be prescriptive regarding the type of planting that is permitted.

To assist with our preferred planting, we employ a regular review of the cemetery and as a result will remove items that we feel are not in keeping with a woodland environment or are a risk to the wildlife.

Apart from trees planted by HGW:
roses, shrubs, conifers, all potted plants and other small trees are not permitted and are routinely removed (along with any borders, stones pebbles, shingle and membrane sheets).

To provide some guidance regarding appropriate planting. We have worked together with a local nursery to provide families with a list of a few plants that are suitable. Our preferred plant list is detailed below:

Summer Colour

Busy Lizzy, Dahlia, Forget me not, Geraniums, Marigolds, Snap Dragon.

Bulbs

Cyclamen, Daffodil, English Bluebells, Snowdrop, Tulip

Other permitted plants

Cowslip, Heather, Pansy

Perennials (every year)

African Lily, Bears Breeches, Columbine, Cranesbill, Elephants Ears, Foxglove, Hardy
Forget-me-not, Ice Plant, Jacobs Ladder, Ladys Mantle, Lupin, Musk Mallow, Primrose, Red Hot Poker

Please remember that maintenance of the plots is the responsibility of the families and therefore, should plants become overgrown or unsightly they may be removed by our staff without prior notice.

Please accept our thanks for your continued co-operation and support.
