Updates to Herongate Woods Regulations – January 2022

We wanted to let you know that we have recently updated the regulations for Herongate Wood.

To view them in full, please visit our Resources page.

Here are the two main changes we have made and the reasons behind them.

Balloons no longer permitted at Herongate Wood

With the potential damage that can be caused by balloons, not only to young trees where they are tied tightly to new branches, but also they can easily be mistaken as foliage and food to wildlife, especially birds and marine life (deflated balloons have been retrieved from our pond recently) we have made the decision that with immediate effect we will no longer accept the releasing or placement of balloons at Herongate Wood.

I hope you will understand our position with regards to this and we will look to amend our Herongate Wood regulations to reflect this communication.

As always, we would like to thank you in advance for your continued support and cooperation.

Trees at Herongate Wood

Over the last few years, the number of trees that have been damaged by items being tied to branches has seen a significant increase. We have seen this with both our memorial trees, which invariably have ashes scattered around them & the trees that are planted on burial & ashes avenue plots.

It is as I am sure you will agree sad to see this, especially when it is something that is within our control to avoid. Whilst we appreciate that at certain times of the year (particularly Christmas) it becomes almost instinctive to dress trees, we have taken the opportunity to discuss & reassess and as a result we would ask that going forward no items of any kind are tied to trees or hung from branches.

We want the trees to thrive and give the newly planted trees the best chance to grow, so we hope you understand our position. We cannot have any exceptions and will look to amend our Herongate Wood regulations in due course to reflect this communication. Any items placed in or on the trees, will be removed and disposed of immediately, without notice.

As always, we would like to thank you in advance for your continued support and cooperation.
