HERONGATE WOOD NEWSLETTER 2025

With our annual summer concert on the horizon, we wanted to give everyone an update about what has been happening here since the last concert.

Summer Memorial Concert and Charity Bake Sale
Saturday 28th June starting @ 1.30pm - All Welcome.

Last year with your help we managed to raise an impressive £1500 from the concert. Together with £925 from our MacMillan coffee morning. Thank you for your continued support. This year our chosen local charities are: billericayfoodbank.org.uk, home-startessex.org.uk and hesshomeless.org

Find my plot via our website

Some of you might have used the new system on our website (greenburial.co.uk) called ‘Find my plot.’ This allows you to be reminded of your loved
one’s location at Herongate Wood.

By entering their name you will be shown three unique what3words as well as the plot number. This should enable you to find your family’s plot with the use of the What3words phone app. (This app would need to be downloaded directly to your phone.)

You enter the words and are shown a directial arrow that will lead to the closest square. If you need help, please call or drop into the office and someone will be able to assist you.

Longer office opening times

We are also pleased to announce that we have decided to open the office 7 days a week. Please pop in and say hello to our team.

Car Park and Toilets

We have also decided to leave the first car park and toilets open outside of office hours. I know this is a much-requested change.

Gazebo’s

We are pleased to announce that we have two new gazebo’s one being installed at last week of May and the other is already up and ready for you.

The one next to the hall is our waiting room for visitors attending funerals, appointments with our team or just to keep out of our weather. The other is
installed near the existing wood ready for you to stop and enjoy the view.

New composting areas

Another change to the cemetery is the dedicated bin area. Some of them now include a larger composting area. We are planning on using the compost created around the cemetery.

Community Garden Shed

We have been really pleased to see the success of our community garden shed so much so we are looking at locations for a second large one.

When we started the gardening group, we noticed visitors struggling with plot maintenance without the use of any tools. It was then that we decided to install a shed like a lending library but for tools to assist you all.

If you have spare garden tools that you feel able to donate to the Community Garden shed, please speak to our friendly staff.

Volunteer Gardening Group
Since our summer concert in 2024 we have continued to be very busy in our volunteer gardening group. We have filled new flower pots with bright flowers, tended to lots of plots and eaten a lot of homemade baked goods including cakes, cookies & pastries, sweet and savoury.

If you would like to join us, we have listed the dates for next few months below. Just come along but make sure you come hungry for cake!

  • Saturday 24 of May th 2025 at 10:30am
  • Tuesday 24th June 2025 at 10:30am
  • Saturday 19th July 2025 at 10:30am
  • Tuesday 19th August 2025 at 10:30am
  • Saturday 20th September 2025 at 10:30am

We will provide all the plants and equipment. We will also provide refreshments and homemade cake.

The gardening group is really more about making friends, chatting and eating cake so don’t worry if you have limited gardening knowledge. All are welcome.
If you are planning to attend the gardening group please bring a change of footwear, weather appropriate clothing, sun-protection, and your gardening gloves.
If you need more information regarding accessibility, activities, or anything else please contact us on 01277 811064 or email us at [email protected] where we will be happy to help.
